The Core of the SELF

After over a decade of studying neuroscience, psychology, psychiatry, philosophy of mind, contemplative traditions including Buddhism and Sufism, and esoteric teachings with tools like the Enneagram; the model that finally ended my search for a unifying skeletal framework for understanding human personality and the SELF is - wait for it - astrology and the zodiac wheel.

It has enough complexity and observational history to allow for the integration of consciousness studies with neuroanatomy, psychology, and physiology in a way that I believe meets the needs of our times.

The 4 cardinal zodiac signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn) provide a foundation for an exhaustive description of the irreducible, core aspects of the self.

I've re-examined my understanding to see if any of the other 8 signs do this. My answer is: they don't.

The 4 Core Aspects of the SELF: Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn

Each of the 12 zodiac signs represents an aspect of the SELF - but only the cardinal signs describe the CORE everything is built on.

Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn do their jobs as first zodiac sign of their respective quadrants; each lays the foundation for the 2 signs following them.

We begin with Libra because the Libra-vmPFC-Kidney connection has been brewing in my work for at least a few years and it felt like a priority. It's also not a coincidence that this comes as Mercury is in Libra, the Sun is about to ingress into Libra, and Venus is preparing for a retrograde in Libra and Scorpio.
